Today's fashion trends can be divided into three major categories: ongoing, short term and recycled. While most of the fashion today is recycled, such as jean jackets and high-waisted shorts, sometimes trends aren't old enough to fall into this category yet. Trends that aren't yet old enough to be recycled are either ongoing or short term. For example, UGG boots, skinny jeans and neon will continue (at least as far as I can see) and have continued to be a part of fashion consistently, some longer than others. Short term trends, on the other hand, are trends that are either eventually deemed impractical or even strange. Most short term trends have to do with hair (I'm sorry but as far as I can see, no one is pushing for the bowl cut to come back...) but there are some clothing trends that didn't last very long. This includes bell bottom jeans (sorry but not sorry to all of you that still wear these) and blue powder tuxedos (maybe I need to stop watching so much That 70's Show...). In conclusion, it is best to shop smart and buy items that will stay in style for a long time. Don't get me wrong, I love going crazy and not checking the final receipt totals after a mall trip as much as the next person and keeping up with the trends is what this blog is all about. This post is just a reminder that not all fashion trends are good fashion trends.
Stay Urban,
Elli
